Hi, i made a new mouse community, i wanted one based more in my area/country that i have ultimate control over *evil word conquoring laugh* (im trying to find more mouse lovers in my area but the search seems to have been pretty much fruitless!)
its a place where people who love mice, no matter what can join :D
so anyway, the new community is we_love_mice anyone can feel free to join if they like, even if youre not in my area :)
if any mods dont want this posted here let me know and ill remove it :)
xposted in the other mouse forums :D

i havent been around for a while so im going to do a lovely big update with lots of pics!!!!!
i made some snazzy new mouse cages. theyre alot lighter and easier to move than the glass tanks i had. they also cost alot less. i can make a few for the same price as one tank and lid. so, now im selling my old cages. anyone in Western Australia interested in some 30litre aquariums with mouse lids, at a good price, leave a comment :)
im actually going on a road trip tomorrow to deliver some young mice i bred as an order for someone (we take turns at driving to each others places, shes got a black blazed buck for me and a cute little girl too, ill post pics of them when i get them), and im selling them a few of my snazzy new cages too, since they think theyre cute LOL. ive been making them all lastnight and today and my fingers REALLY hurt. i plan to replace ALL my tanks and small cages (that means i need about 15 for myself) :)
on sunday i have a lady and her children coming over to look at my manxes and pick out a boy. (business is GOOD, but im resisting making more litters then i plan, since you never know when theres a slump.) last tuesday i dropped off an order of 6 females and 4 males to the local TAFE campus (to train vet nurses how to sex and care for small animals - i did the course already so i know theyll be loooked after andi have visiting rights YAY)), that put a huge dent in my stock for sale. so i have 3 little mice left :P
i had a litter from my lovely black self girl, who is the daughter of my wonderful Looshkin who some of you may remember (shes in my icon actually), but her cagemate ate all but one - who only survived because i found it and took out the cannibal. then blackie lost her milk and the little one never had a milk tummy.
by this time, the other girl had a litter of four - 3 pink eye and one dark eye... and shes looking after then really well. i found the little one cold and hungry and decided that it was going to die if i didnt foster, so i had to take the chance that the other mouse might eat it. but no, shes now looking after the little one better than i ever expected. the next day after i put it in there it had a big fat milk tummy and i was REALLY happy :) how ironic hey.
well, these babies are really big now, just a few days old, and ill put in a picture. theyre as big as the top two parts of my little finger!!
i put in Cheza, my blue girl, and my agouti girl (no names yet) in to mate with my blue marked texel boy Bluey. i am really looking forward to these litters. im going to use them to make blue agoutis, somehting we dont really get around here, ill likely be one of the only people with them. next its lilacs (as in b/b d/d mice not B/* D/* p/p). ahhh so much to write so little time. well, i better shut up and let you all get on with gushing at pictures :)
x posted to other mouse forums and my journal.( behind the cut are ... mousie pictures, pictures of the new tanks, and pics of the old tanks and carry cages for sale.Collapse )

Cage + Syrian
Alrighty. I want to get either a Teddy Bear Hamster or a Syrian, but I think I have cage issues. I currently have a Critter Trail X-Tream and a Critter trail level 2, both are attached together via a tube. Is this set up big enough for a "normal" sized hamster? I currently have one dwarf living in this set up, and to me she looks cramped, but I really don't know if she cares, since she has access to 2 wheels and her ball. *side note- the big hamster and dwarf would not be living together, this is a "thinking about the future" post*

So I just got my first pair of guinea pigs, they are males and the pet store said they are about a year old, which seems really old to adopt, isn't it ussually a couple months old? Anyway, the boys seem to be batteling for dominance, with the slightly larger of the two absynnians constantly mounting and chasing the smaller guy. I know that they have only been living in their new envirenment for a short time, but has anyone had experience with this? Will they calm down, and be good cage mates? they have two hiding boxes but sleep in the same one together, I assumed this meant they were going to get along, but I find the one that is prooving to be less dominant is more nervous, and also doesn't respond very well to me, he shakes and weaks loudly whenever I go near him, the more dominant one freaks when I pick him up than totally chills out and lets me pet him. I've had animals before, cats, and a simply brilliant rat, but these are my first piggies and I really want to make sure there ok. Also I am giving them timothy hay, guinea pellots, and a variety of fruits and vegatables, which they are tottally ignoring, they eat lots of hay and pellots, but ignore appels, raisons, spinach, brocalli, Kale, all the stuff I thought these guys loved. Is it because they have gone been in a pet store awhile and haven't gotten this kind of stuff? All the guinea pig stuff I've seen online suggest bonding through fresh greens as treats, but my fella's don't even look at the produce even when I'm out the picture. Any advice would be appreciated.

rats and guinea pigs together?
Hey -- sorry to bother you (as an outsider) but you mention both rats and guinea pigs in your info, so maybe you can shed some light on my question?
I grew up with guinea pigs, but for a long time now I've been very interested in having a rat. It looks like I might me able to get a rat (a few month old male who's apparently been handled a lot) from freecycle. I'm doing research on whether I can take this on or not (money is very tight) but my real question is: I have a guinea pig (female, year and a half old, pretty spunky) and I want to know if she'd get along with the prospective new pet at all. I imagine housing them together would be dumb, but is it even an okay idea to introduce them to eachother? Would they get along, or would it be dangerous to try to get them to?
Oh, and I don't know what size the rat I may be getting is, but would that make a difference? (maybe larger ones are more aggressive? or maybe one more guinea pig-sized would be more likely to be welcomed by her?)

where to get...
My hamster passed away on easter this year. I cleaned out and packed up all his things about a month later.
I miss having a soft fuzzy one around the apartment.
I got him from a mom and pop pet store in PA but now I am in VA and I am not sure where to go to look for possible pets.
Are there any places you recommend? Are there any places I should avoid?

Some of you know that I have two female gerbils
had them a few months now.
they are in there "chew on everything" phase as I like to call it.
what are some things I can put in there tank that they can chew on, I have done the toliet paper rolls but they eat through those in a night.
so is there anything else?
Thanks to anyone in advance.
Ok, just wanted to know if someone could offer some advice. I have a female teddy bear hamster. She is about 2.5 or 3 months old. Things seem to have been going well only today while playing with her a bit, I noticed her bottom front teeth seem really long. Now, her cage has metal bars and I do see her chew on those fairly often and she currently has 3 wooden chew toys of different kinds AS WELL as a natural wood log cabin that she sleeps in. She used to chew on the toys and the cabin but now I never see her use them. Will hamsters let their teeth grow too long? Or is it instinct for them to chew on stuff??? Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

Check out my website
I'm new to this community, but I'm not so new to small fuzzballs. My mom and I have 2 standard chinchillas named Tidbit and Rascal. They're uncle and nephew.
I've spent hundreds of hours working on a chinchilla website at www.geocities.com/chinchillasrcute/produ
cts if you'd like to check it out. I sell small animal chew toys - mostly willow branches and hanging toys. Willow branches help every small animal's digestion and teeth. My prices are reasonable, and my clients find me very responsible. Right now, I have a special as follows:
Now until June 3rd:
Any money order purchase - all items are buy one get one free.
For normal orders: buy $50 worth of toys, get $50 of toys free.
Thanks for reading :)

The misadventures of a uncoordinated hammie...
Like all trained ninja hamsters mine is no different I suppose but sometimes I wonder about Snug. Recently I changed out his cage into a two story like hamster duplex vs the Crittertrail 2 the boy had before. The new house is mostly cage and goes straight up with levels and ladders and so forth but sometimes your sitting there and he drops down to the bottom of his cage. So your like looking over to check and see if he's ok. At first I thought OMG is he alive! And then he's moving along like not a thing happened at all. Now I'm starting to think he's taken to bungee jumping minus the cord for the thrill of it. Well, anyways today I got him a mini igloo I thought maybe if he took to his new house he might give up his dare devil ways granted this is the same little guy who can escape anything by altering his body's density but that's a whole other story.
Gotta love small hero's.
My hams Snug and Thumbelina!~
Anyone have any idea on how to keep him from jumping?
He has toys
He has a ham tv
He has shelfs
He has chews
He has a new igloo
He has two houses connected together and a revolution.
He has 2 wheels
He has a cardboard tunnel chew toy thing
My hamster has a better life then me I'm starting to think
He just likes jumping and freaking me out I guess... Current Mood: worried

Hi everyone! I hope everything is going great. I have a small question about my hamster that I've had for 2 weeks now. He just recently started chewing in his metal bars to his cage. I saw just now that his front tooth is chipped. I need something to give him that he can chew on so that he'll stop chewing on his bars. Any suggestions?

I have a 9 week old teddy bear hamser, male... He has a double decker cage and on the bottom he has this little log cabin. He sleeps in it, but he also builds up a food storage in it. I cleaned the cage today and the thing that worried me was there was feces in with the food... Won't this lead to massive health problems? How can I stop him from doing this? Any help would be appreciated! Current Mood: confused
